The day is for lovers, and how best to celebrate a route already implies the complicity of the couple in their title. We talk about the Romantic Road, the Romantische Strasse, travel concocted over half a century ago, nearly three hundred miles, extending from the German city of Würzburg in the north to Fussen in the south, near the Austrian Alps. The route gets inspiration Tanhauser Wagner opera, but the proverbial Bavarian bustle, and traverses beautiful fortified buildings, roads and medieval halls and cellars of high rank.

To begin, we choose the Munich airport, if we start the route from the south, or landing in Frankfurt to boot from the north. We chose a rental car and walk the route without too many preconceived ideas, just enjoying what we are on the go. Even have the option to travel in the Romantic Road bus line, which offers a regular daily service between Würzburg and Füssen (schedules and seat reservations, here ).

After the art, a wine in one of the picturesque taverns brings joy to continue.

Next stop, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, considered the medieval German city by definition. The houses with wooden facades, walls of two miles, the Plaza Mayor with the City of the thirteenth century, Renaissance, one of the most beautiful country. After crossing the residence of the Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst, home to the more traditional German aristocracy, in just a few miles we Feuchtwangen , famous for its parties and close to beautiful historic Dinkelsbühl .

So we reach Nördlingen, whose wall in this case is completely circular and contains the church of St. Georg, with its bell tower a hundred feet high and its news-style singer and minstrel. Nearby, in Harburg, the red-roofed castle, perfectly preserved, providing a dramatic contrast. The NEXT step, Augsburg, founded by Emperor Augustus, reflects the financial strength of the German bourgeoisie: the palaces, the impressive City Hall with the Golden Hall and the magnificent Gothic cathedral.

From here began the end of the road to the south, touching the border with Austria. We are however lSchwangau, with the castles of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein, Ludwig’s real and coming to Füssen at the foot of the Alps. We recover in a spa, enjoy the outdoors or being carried away by the magic of environment, no more.
