Patmos, the rise of apocalypse
“I, John, your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ was on the island called Patmos because of God’s word and witness of Jesus,” says the apostle to the beginning of the book of Revelation in the Bible. St. John had a vision and draft the Revelation on this Greek island has earned the place to be known as the Jerusalem of the Aegean. And holy places in 32 square kilometers and among its more than 3,000 inhabitants, is not lacking.

Among the reasons why the island has been listed as World Heritage Cultural Site, are the Monastery of San Juan Evangelista, an impressive century Byzantine fortress that houses XI five other chapels. Between both locations, is the Cave of the Apocalypse, where it is said that the text was dictated to San Juan. The monks kept in the library 33 pages of the oldest known gospel (in particular, of San Marcos), 16,000 documents from other Turks, Greeks and all kinds.

In Patmos you can do what you do in every Greek island, enjoy life. It has great restaurants and taverns where sailors eat fresh fish and even a restored medieval tavern Jora (bar Pirgos). The streets is a charming medieval and Mediterranean olives and take a table overlooking the sea will return to peace. The beaches are clean and you can rent small boats to circle the island and go from one beach to another. However, in an island full of monks are not allowed to sunbathe topless.
